MD College, Mumbai dominates Khelo India Mumbai City Kabaddi Tournament
Khelo India Youth Games is an initiative taken by Government of India. Its purpose is to discover the sports talent at early stage and nurture them by giving required financial, training and overall assistance.
This national level talent hunt programme was held in 2018 at Delhi, then at Pune in 2019 and at Guwahati in 2020. Due to covid pandemic the tournament which was about to happen in 2021 now will be held in Feb 2022 at Panchkula, Haryana.
For this tournament the selection processes and trials are began at state levels. Talking about Kabaddi, Maharashtra state is conducting district level tournaments. Best players will again compete at regional level. Then the teams will be finalised.
Under this, Mumbai City District Level Kabaddi touranemt was held on 25th and 26th November at Bhartiya Krida Mandir, Wadala. 32 boys teams and 9 girls teams took part in this competition for the age group under 18 years.
Maharshi Dayanand College, Parel emerged as a winner in girls and boys categories. Their boys’ team beat Vijay Club, Dadar and their girls’ team was able to win against Swami Samarth Krida Mandal.
Both the teams have qualified for regional level tournament. Apart from this 5 girls and 5 boys are also selected to compete in regional competition. The winner team will represent Maharashtra in Khelo India Games 2022.
