Indian Men’s Team Clinched Gold At Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Amid The Controversial Final Match Against Iran

The Asian Games were inaugurated on 23rd September. Kabaddi matches were scheduled from 2nd to 7th October. All the matches took place at Xiaoshan Guali Sports Centre Hangzhou, China.

Yesterday (7th October) on the sixth day of in Men’s category, Indian women’s team defeated Iran 33-29 in an interesting battle. India won the Gold medal.

They reclaimed Gold medal after settling for Bronze at 2018 Asian Games. They had won Gold at every Asian Games since their category was included in Asian Games in 1990.

At the 38th minute, Indian skipper Pawan Kumar Sehrawat went for do or die raid, he put out & Iran was given a point. But Pawan demanded 4 points since he was out of lobby without being touched.

After team review both teams were given one point each. He & whole Indian team started protesting against the decision. This decision was overturned & caused confusion.

Then Iran team protested against the decision. The play was suspended for almost 40 minutes. Both teams played, coaching staff were arguing with officials.

While Indian Skipper Pawan Kumar was having words with AKFI officials, Iranian captain Fazel Atrachali chose to remain silent. Both teams coaches were also arguing with match officials.

When the match was resumed Indian team was awarded with 3 points as per IKF rule book. Then Indian team scored some more points & secured Gold medal.

Before that defending Gold medalist Iran had thrashed Chinese Taipei comfortably. In the one sided battle, India had won the match against Pakistan. Chinese Taipei & Pakistan got bronze medal here.
