PKL 7 Performance Series: Gujarat Giants hunt for their maiden Title
Saiprasad Kagne
Gujarat Giants have made it to PKL final twice so far now in season 5 & 6. They could not continue their strong performance in the last season though as they had lot of trouble in terms of players injuries and some inconsistent performances by players.
In this article, we will have a look at their last season performance with certain metrices through an analysis.
Analysis of Raiding & Other Metrics
In last season, they scored 686 points in total in both raiding and defending unit while they conceded 668 points in total as well which seems quite balanced difference. But when compared with other teams this difference was very low. This resulted in team finishing at 2nd last position in table.
On the other hand, in raiding department they scored 372 points with 305 successful raids. This shows their conversion rate from 1 point to multiple points is not that great. As a result, they finished again on last position in terms of most number raiding points. While with respect to Avg score, Avg raid points and Do-or-Die raid points they scored 27.09,16.9,63 respectively. Thus, they finished their campaign in bottom half of table in last season.
Analysis of Defending & Other Metrics
Gujarat Giants scored 224 points with 205 successful tackles which conveys their conversion rate in defense is not up to the mark as compared to other teams. In terms of All out metrices, they inflicted 25 All-outs and conceded 25 All-outs throughout the tournament which can be termed as one of the reasons for them having a forgettable season.
However, When it comes to game changing metrices i.e. Super raids and Super tackles Gujarat Giants is in bottom portion of table with 7 super raids and in top 3 teams with 20 super tackles which shows they fall in situation like super tackle most number of times and were not able to maintain maximum number of players consistently on mat. Finally, in terms of Avg tackles points they scored 10.18 points which sends them on upper portion of table. Hopefully, they might improve this metric ahead of season 8.
