Puneri Paltan: The Risk Takers of PKL

India’s second most viewed league, Pro Kabaddi is set to begin from 22nd December. After a gap of two years due to Covid pandemic the league will have a single venue i.e. Bengaluru. The teams are getting ready for the upcoming season.

Many records have been created and broken by the players in PKL. Apart from individual records team records are also been created. As the brand new season is getting started we can expect some new records by the players and their teams too.

Before that, let us take a glance at one of the record created by the team Puneri Paltan. Paltan is the team with having most do or die raid points to their name. After two empty raids third raid is a do or die raid for the team as per the rule. In this raid, the player has to score at least a point otherwise he is considered ’out’ and opponent team gets one point.

In PKL 7, most do or die raid points were scored by Jaipur Pink Panthers and UP Yoddha (80 point each) collectively. Though Puneri Paltan (64 points) has most do or die points in PKL history, U Mumba (76 points), Patna Pirates (78 points), Haryana Steelers (76 points) were ahead of them in PKL 7.

After Puneri Paltan, Bengal Warriors and Gujarat Giants had equal points (63 points). Tamil Thalaivas and Dabang Delhi KC both earned 58 points. Bengaluru Bulls (54 points) and Telugu Titans (49 points) stood at 11th and final position in the tally.

Till now Puneri Paltan has scored 522 do or die points. Behind them is Patna Pirates with 476 do or die points and Jaipur Pink Panthers that has 474 points. None of the teams are close to Paltan. It will be exciting to see if Puneri Paltan maintains their position in this season too.
