The Iranian Era begins at World Kabaddi
Iran created history post their victory over Women’s Kabaddi team and clinched their first ever Asian Games gold medal. Iranian men also joined the party after they thrashed South Korea 26-16 in a one sided match.
Iran team defeated 7 times Asian Games Gold medal winning team India as 27-18. So Iran was the favorite to win the Gold. South Korea was the same team that defeated India in the group stages of the game and that is when people took notice the team as contenders for the medal.
Iran took a lead of 2 points over South Korea in the first half. Both teams were fighting for each and every point. Halftime score was 10-8 in favor of Iran.
Second half was fully dominated by the Iranians. Their defense did not give a single chance to South Korean raiders. Iranian raiders were also consistently scoring points.
Fazel Atrachali, Abozar Mohajermighani were showing tremendous performance in defense. Esmail Maghsoudlou, Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh were brilliant in raiding. All-in-all it was a great team victory for Iran.
Iran won both Gold medals in men’s and women’s category. Both these teams were winners of the Silver medal at 2014 Asian Games. Both teams have ended India’s supremacy over the World Kabaddi. Even though Iran has always been dominant force in the Kabaddi domain this is definitely a new beginning and a new force to beacon with in the coming years.
