After a two-year gap due to the coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming season of the PKL is all set to begin from December 22. The New Young Players (NYP) draft was carried out on August 29, while the overseas and Category A players and Category A (domestic players) went under the hammer on August 30. The auction for the players in categories B, C, and D took place on August 31.
The auction was full of excitement where some new faces got high price and some of veterans were sold at low price, which we can also consider as the steal of the auction.
Let’s have a look at top 3 raiders who could have got higher price in the auction than they got.
1: DEEPAK NIWAS HOODA (55 LAKHS, JAIPUR PINK PANTHERS)
Jaipur released their captain just before the season 8 auction, Deepak was retained at 126.50 lakhs in PKL 7. Deepak scored just 151 raid points in season 7 which was possibly the reason of his release. Playing a smart move at the auction, Jaipur exercised FBM card & roped in Deepak for just 55 lakhs.
2: RAHUL CHAUDHARI (40 LAKHS, PUNERI PALTAN)
The “SHOWMAN” Rahul Chaudhari was released by Tamil Thalaivas just before the auction. Rahul was retained at 94 lakhs in PKL 7 by Tamil Thalaivas. The second highest raid points scorer of the league has not been consistent with the form but his raiding brilliance of the past can’t be ignored. Deepak scored just 130 raid points in season 7 which was possibly the reason of his release.
3: ROHIT KUMAR (36 LAKHS, TELUGU TITANS)
Captain Cool Rohit Kumar who led Bengaluru Bulls to their maiden PKL trophy in season 6 was surprisingly released by the bulls before PKL 8 auction. Rohit was retained at 98 lakhs in PKL 7. Rohit due to his injuries wasn’t a consistent performer from last few matches and just managed to score 100 raid points in PKL 7. Telugu Titans roped in Rohit at just 36 lakhs which possibly could be a steal if Rohit played up to his potential in PKL SEASON 8.
